SWC's Automatic Diver - A Taste of Swiss Excellence?

Since my first article ‘Bang For The Buck,’ SWC have been going from strength to strength.

I mean, let’s be honest, their Kickstarter campaign was always going to be a success when you consider the product, but the response from the watch community was phenomenal. Full funding within six hours of launch, and still climbing, I won’t say I told you so but … well, you know.

For the last month, give or take, I’ve been lucky enough to put SWC’s 300m diver through its paces.

We’re talking daily wear; rain or shine, at home, work, out with the dog, down the pub, suits, shirts, shorts, sandals, you name it.

The million dollar question then, do the stats add up, is the SWC 300m really “A taste of Swiss excellence”, without breaking the bank?

The case comes in at a fairly sizeable 44mm, which might sound on the larger side for some peoples taste, but bear with me. Between the relatively short lugs, and the gentle taper on the crown guards, the SWC doesn’t actually wear a great deal bigger than an SKX, around the 42mm mark. It’s also fairly low profile so it strikes a nice balance between presence on the wrist and daily wear-ability.

The bracelet helps as well, it’s fantastically well engineered for a watch in the sub $500 price bracket. A combination of brushed and polished finishes on the links, coupled with a solid stainless clasp and diver’s extension.

Solid really is the operative term here, the clasp is a feature in itself. To be honest if there is anything that lets down the likes of the Seiko SKX or Sea Urchin it’s the clasp, which feels like it’s been pressed out of an old Coke can by comparison.

The SWC 300m is made for people who love watches, by people who love watches, which really shows in the fit and finish. The domed sapphire crystal, ceramic insert, and smooth sweeping movement (28,800 A/H) give it the kind of premium feel you'd expect from a watch twice as expensive. It’s well thought out and well executed.

So here’s the bottom line, the SWC 300m really is as good as it sounds on paper, it’s comfortable, great looking, and manufactured to a standard that far outweighs the price tag.

Massive fan of what SWC are doing.
